It all started early this morning

As her mem'ry cruely eased my mind

I found a picture in my wallet

I thought I threw away

Oh, it's been one heck of a day.



Then while looking through the evening papers

I ran across some torturing news

Mr. and Mrs, O'Grady now have a new baby

Oh, it's been one heck of a day.



Is it there for me to love her

And cry at the thought of her

When my only hope is a dream.



An old friend dropped by late this evening

Wouldn't you know he asked about her

But I guess he didn't know that I lost her long ago

Oh, it's been one heck of the day.
