Grammy Awards Announces 2027 Eligibility Changes and New Genre Categories
The Recording Academy has unveiled significant updates for the 2027 Grammy Awards, including new eligibility rules for the New Artist and Album categories. The academy will now accept four submissions for New Artist instead of three, aiming to clarify prominence standards. For the Album category, the threshold for new recordings has been lowered from 75% to 66% to better accommodate modern streaming cycles and early releases. Additionally, five new genre categories have been introduced, most notably a dedicated award for Asian pop to recognize the commercial and artistic impact of K-pop and related scenes in Japan, the Philippines, and China. The Los Angeles Times reports these changes reflect a shift toward acknowledging diverse musical landscapes.
