Cuvam se
“Čuvam se” (“I’m Protecting Myself”) begins in the intoxication of a kiss, then widens into the geography of separation. The narrator feels the beloved under her skin, but says they are at opposite ends of the universe; empty platforms and distance make departure feel inevitable. The title becomes a quiet declaration of self-preservation. She still wants the other person, but cannot keep moving toward a relationship that leaves her stranded between trains and promises. The lyric’s strongest images are transitional: the night, the station, the empty platform. They place the singer in a space between staying and leaving, where desire remains but the future is uncertain. The phrase “under my skin” gives intimacy a physical permanence, while the cosmic distance makes that closeness almost impossible to reach. The song is not saying the feeling has vanished. It is asking how to care for oneself when the feeling is still there. Marija Šerifović’s controlled vocal delivery lends the song a resolve that its words are still trying to discover. Independent criticism of the track is scarce. “Čuvam se” is a song about boundaries made after intimacy, not before it. The narrator cannot erase the beloved from her body, but she can decide not to let longing determine every next step. Self-protection, here, is not the opposite of love; it is what remains necessary when love alone is no longer enough. |
