Zasto nisi zena bez proslosti
“Zašto nisi žena bez prošlosti” (“Why Aren’t You a Woman Without a Past?”) is a revealingly uncomfortable question. The narrator says the beloved can soothe his wounds one day and seem to steal his time the next; he wants love without the history that makes her a person beyond his control. The title gives away the song’s insecurity. Rather than ask what they can build together, the singer wishes she came without experiences that might complicate his fantasy. The lyric’s contradiction is sharp: he wants intimacy, but only if it arrives without a past. The phrase “without a past” sounds like an impossible standard imposed on the woman, a desire to be the first and only chapter in someone else’s life. That makes the song more interesting than a simple jealous lament. It exposes how possessiveness can disguise itself as romance, and how fear of comparison can turn another person’s history into a supposed flaw. Marinko Rokvić’s performance sits within a tradition of direct Balkan love songs, but the lyric’s assumptions invite a modern listener to question the speaker rather than simply sympathize. Independent criticism of this track is limited, so no reception consensus is asserted. “Zašto nisi žena bez prošlosti” may intend its narrator’s jealousy as pathos; what it also reveals is the unfairness of asking someone to arrive in love as if they had never lived before. |
