Artist/Band: Joker Out
Lyrics for Song: Bluza
Lyrics for Album: Bluza

Stolicu primakni
Dok jednom srce otkuca
Spasite me, smislite neki plan
Ako svane sunce
Ostaću sam

Bluza

"Bluza" had been living on stage for nearly a year before Joker Out made it official. The Slovenian five-piece, known for their self-described shagadelic rock'n'roll energy, had been closing out shows with this slow-burning ballad, and fans kept asking when it would get a proper release. When it finally arrived on 27 September 2024, it did not sound like a band playing it safe. It sounded like a group stretching into new territory.

The song opens with a simple acoustic guitar figure, the kind of intimate gesture that immediately pulls the listener in. Then the synthesisers arrive, subtle at first, weaving into the melody and giving the track a nostalgic, almost timeless quality. It is a classic rock ballad structure, but the band's fingerprints are all over it: the dramatic bridge that builds to a high note where Bojan Cvjeti?anin's voice really opens up, and the epic instrumental finale that gives the electric guitar room to breathe.

Lyrically, "Bluza" is a love song with a twist. The verses describe a small room, a chair pulled closer, a hand touched, a night where the singer is acting like a drunk fool without having had a single glass. "Ja mislim da sam se zaljubio u tebe," he sings ? "I think I've fallen in love with you." There is a juvenile innocence to the confession, as Melomaniacs Mag put it, the levitating feeling of falling in love. But the final line undercuts everything: "Ako svane sunce, osta?u sam" ? "If the sun rises, I'll be alone." The whole song, it turns out, has been a fantasy, a night borrowed from reality, and the morning will bring the loneliness back.

The band has been open about the experimental spirit behind the track. On their third album, they told Ravno Do Dna, they were playing with keyboards and synthesisers, and "Bluza" was a perfect example of what they had been working on. They wanted to create something both timeless and current, and the song does feel like it could have been written in the nineties or yesterday. It is also their fourth song in Serbian, following "?ta bih ja," and it shows how comfortable they have become moving between languages.

For a reviewer, the most striking thing about "Bluza" is how it manages to be both a crowd-pleaser and a deeply personal statement. It is the kind of ballad that works in an arena, with the whole room swaying, but it also feels like a private confession overheard. The band has always had a romantic streak ? "Metulji" and "Padam" proved that ? but "Bluza" feels like the most complete expression of that side of them yet. It is a song about wanting to freeze a moment, to keep the lights off and the day at bay, and it captures that feeling with real tenderness.
