Varas me

Maja Suput · Other Songs - Maja Suput

Nije to ljubav
jer ljubav voli i ne zavidi
ljubav sve prasta i sve podnosi
nije to sto mi radis ti

Sto ti je zivot, kap iz srece
kisa tuge, sreca
jer tu za ljude drugi mijenjam
svaki vuk dlaku ali cut
mijenjati to je uzalud

Ref.
Varas me nocima, nocima
sa suzama u ocima, ocima
to mozes skrivati od ljudi
nebo nek prasta, ja ti sudim

Varaj me, ali znaj, ali znaj
jednom kad prodje taj lazni sjaj
postelja svilena, a prazna
tvoj zlocin, tvoja je i kazna
za kraj

Nije mi nista, slagat cu
to mi je pametnije
ljubav je stvorena za sretnije
plakat cu sutra radije

Varas me

“Varaš me” (“You’re Cheating on Me”) opens with a definition of love that the relationship has failed to meet: love does not envy, forgives and endures. The narrator contrasts those ideals with a partner’s repeated betrayal, then questions the choices she has made in the name of keeping the relationship alive. The lyric’s biblical language is not decorative; it becomes the standard against which the beloved’s behavior is judged.

The song’s sharpest insight is its impatience with the cycle. The narrator says that people may change their outward appearance, but changing one’s nature is another matter. That proverb-like line is a warning against confusing promises with transformation. The relationship has become a pattern in which the speaker swaps one part of her life for another while the partner continues to hurt her. The question is no longer whether he is sorry, but whether she believes the next apology.

Maja Šuput’s performance brings a dramatic pop energy to a lyric that is both wounded and morally certain. Specific independent critical coverage is limited. “Varaš me” is a song about the moment when idealized love stops being an excuse. Its narrator still feels the attachment, but she has begun to name the gap between what love should be and what this person is actually doing. That recognition may be the first step toward leaving.
