Bad Dreams

Conquer Divide / Of Virtue · Bad Dreams

Somedays these thoughts don't feel like mine
Like I'm just watching it play out
I try to stay between the lines
But I must be losing my way now
All these vicious feelings
Like ghosts haunting and watching me fading
Can you blame 'em?
When my heart's like a shell
And this head feels like hell
Is it a waste of time to live my life?
Wish that I could be your hero
But I can hardly save myself, save myself
Hey
Trapped in bad dreams played on repeat
I need a cure for my head
Wars raging on inside of me
And I don't know how it ends
Wish that I could be your hero
I can hardly save myself, save myself
Wish that I could be your hero
I can't save myself
Sometimes I feel like I'm inside
A storm aimlessly turning
It doesn't matter how hard I try
When everything gets blurry
All I hear are noises on and on
Driving me crazy and it's draining
I see the clock ticking away
And I'm losing all my faith
Am I numb to what I've become?
Trapped in bad dreams played on repeat
I need a cure for my head
Wars raging on inside of me
And I don't know how it ends
Wish that I could be your hero
I can hardly save myself, save myself
Wish that I could be your hero
I can't save myself
In the eye of the storm
My back against the wall
These thoughts in my head keep circling, circling
In the eye of the storm
My back against the wall
These thoughts in my head
Keep me down, keep me down
This cycle makes me feel like I'm to blame
I am everywhere and nowhere, all the same
Trapped in bad dreams played on repeat
Wars raging on inside of me
I wish I could be your hero
I can hardly save myself, save myself
Wish that I could be your hero
I can't save myself
Oh, I can't save myself
Oh (Save myself)
I can't save myself

Bad Dreams

“Bad Dreams” locates its horror not in a monster but in the gap between the self a person wants to be and the mind they cannot reliably steer. The opening lines describe thoughts that “don’t feel like mine,” as if the singer has been reduced to an unwilling spectator. The song’s recurring dream becomes a loop of internal conflict: the narrator wants to stand between someone else and harm, yet admits they can barely save themselves. That admission gives the familiar promise of being a hero an ache the song refuses to tidy away.

Conquer Divide make the language of isolation communal. The chorus does not claim that love cures the narrator’s condition; it asks for help while naming the war still underway. In the verses, blurred vision, haunting presences and a heart reduced to a shell sketch the exhaustion of trying to keep functioning. The crucial phrase is “played on repeat”: the nightmare is not a single dramatic event but a recurring pattern, which makes the song’s plea for a cure feel urgent without pretending that recovery is instant.

The January 2025 single features Of Virtue, whose Tyler Ennis and Damon Tate contribute vocals. Conquer Divide guitarist Izzy Johnson described its theme as analysis paralysis and the cycle of self-sabotaging thoughts, connecting it to the band’s earlier introspective songs. A Music Scene Media review singled out the track’s contrast between singable hooks and heavier passages, including a breakdown around the two-and-a-half-minute mark. That balance is central to its effect: a chorus built to be voiced together sits inside music that gives the turmoil physical weight. The song does not offer a cure so much as the first useful act of resistance—saying the fear aloud, and discovering it can be shared.
