Get Going (Live)
Sebastian Sturm · The Kingston Session
The times you don't see no way out
I should know what it's feeling like mine
In your self esteem sticks as spike, man.
And we're not the first one to learn
That good feeling you've got to earn.
It's not enough to sit and pray for salvation
Good ones will never cause a revolution
Well, you not own some when you loose
You don't look smart being used
You don't make friends when you from
You're not impressive when you're down (2x)
Come on, my brother, I lookout off your window
In the minute you will know
The word keeps me a ranging
And even people, they keep on,
They keep on changing
Why they are moving around, like us?
And they seem to have their fate in them.
But their suit as their stone steer
They will start to feeling ill
Until you not own some when you loose
You don't look smart being used
You don't make friends when you from
You're not impressive when you're down (2x)
So get up, and get going,
Come on get up and get going
Get up, and get going
Cause you and i, i know it
That is all we've got to do
To get where we want to
Something they call (4x)
Happiness (2x)
A Kingston studio session gives ‘Get Going’ its live pulse
The title is a direct instruction, but Sebastian Sturm’s ‘Get Going’ is more than a generic motivational chant. The song’s verses acknowledge frustration and low self-esteem before turning toward movement as a practical response: get up, start again, and keep working toward the life you want. Its live version appears on *The Kingston Session*, recorded with Sturm’s band Exile Airline at Harry J Studio in Kingston, Jamaica. Rather than documenting a concert crowd, the record captures musicians playing together live in the studio, an approach that gives the lyric’s call to action a collective, band-led feel.
The 2015 session was Sturm’s fifth album and his first production in Jamaica after four studio records made in Germany. The nine-song set was created in two days with producers Samuel Clayton Jr. and Stephen Stewart, using a stripped-back setup of guitar, bass, drums and keys. United Reggae’s Erik Magni described the album as organic, easy-going and jam-oriented, praising the way the band’s jazzy arrangements and Sturm’s raspy, theatrical voice work together. ‘Get Going’ is one of the previously released songs re-recorded for the session, not a newly written track exclusive to the Kingston trip.
The album’s destination is part of the music’s meaning, but it should not be romanticized as a claim to Jamaican identity: Sturm is a German singer working with his established band and Jamaican studio collaborators, entering a roots-reggae recording environment through a deliberately live session. Reggaeville lists the release date as 4 November 2015 and confirms ‘Get Going’ in the nine-track sequence; the associated credits list Sturm and Philip Breidenbach among the composers. No reliable chart result or separate track review is available. The recording’s strongest documented distinction is its process: a familiar song re-performed with the looseness and shared pulse of a studio band playing in the same room.
