A former love kept alive in dreams
“Ako spava” (“If He Is Asleep”) imagines an absent lover still close enough to be reached in a dream. Jasna Zlokić’s narrator asks that no one wake him, hoping he can revisit the time when the two were “one body, one soul.” The tenderness is shadowed by the reality that his life now belongs to another woman, leaving the singer with an old wound that never quite stops burning. The song is included on Zlokić’s album *Žena od mota*, originally released in 1999; later digital reissues can carry newer dates. Its melodic Croatian pop setting gives an intimate frame to a lyric that moves between memory and separation. Rather than confront the new relationship directly, the narrator retreats into the idea of sleep as the one place their former closeness might return. No reliable chart position or detailed contemporary reception record is readily available. “Ako spava” stands out for its compassionate, restrained perspective: the singer does not demand that her former lover return, but hopes he might hear her song in a dream. That small wish makes the heartbreak feel especially enduring. |
