“Nema vakе barabe u selu” (“There’s No Rogue Like Him in the Village”) is a comic portrait of a man who cannot stay married and is more interested in other people’s wives. The narrator’s boastful troublemaking is exaggerated for laughs: he marries, separates, refuses to be judged by a wife, then jokes that a doctor might cure him of chasing women. The song lets the rogue narrate his own reputation, with enough self-mockery to make the character more clown than hero.

The humor is broad, but it also reveals the double standard on which the persona depends. The man treats fidelity as optional for himself while framing a wife’s judgment as an obstacle. The lyric’s village setting turns his private behavior into public gossip, and the refrain makes the community part of the joke. Listeners can enjoy the character’s audacity while noticing that his charm depends on women bearing the consequences of his appetite.

Mara i Lole’s folk-comedy approach places the track in a longstanding tradition of humorous songs about roguish men and village life. I found no substantial independent criticism of the song. “Nema vake barabe u selu” is most interesting when its comedy is allowed to be double-edged: the singer is funny because he recognizes his own bad behavior, but the joke does not make that behavior harmless. The village may laugh; someone still has to live with the rogue.
